I have been exposed and fascinated with arts as long as I can remember. Being the first grandchild of my family, I was dolled up and photographed frequently. My biggest influence in make-up artistry would be my uncle Rodel Lacson, who became a proficient self taught make-up artist. I was his guinea pig as a child.
“Not knowing” was something I happily took as a challenge as I was not one to be told what I can and cannot do. I developed my talents one at a time, starting off with makeup artistry working in Theatre/Film/Photo shoots, I realized that hair was something importat that I must master as well. Having both… I slowly realized the importance of having a portfolio but I needed to be in charge of how I wanted to showcase my work. I needed to build my portfolio and having photos of my clients was a must. Although I was getting lovely photos from my clients photographers, I felt they did not display my work as a makeup artist as the photos came in tones altering the colors I carefully selected for my clients. Since I had a background in photography, I slowly picked up on taking my own photographs and overtime, I mastered the glamour headshot photography that showcases my work as a makeup artist.
It wasn’t until 1997 that I decided to obtain my professional training at Blanche McDonald Institute in Vancouver, British Columbia. I learned a lot from training at Blanche. Although Blanche opened up my eyes to different angles of make-up in Film and TV, Photography, Theatre, Glamour, and Out of Kit Special F/X, it is the work experiences I have obtained through the years that have kept me in touch with the modern style of today’s glamorous trend.
My hair training was from Blanche MacDonald, Ray’s Beauty School, NCA Oregon, and a Fast Track course at Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology to learn hair science.
My photography background started in High School holding a 35mm SLR and processing my own black and white prints in the dark room. Slowly, I increased my knowledge taking further training at BCIT and Philippine Center for Creative Imaging for Studio Photography and Fashion Photography.
As an Artist, I find a personal accomplishment when I receive compliments from my clients and just simply walking away from the art I’ve created knowing I had given it my best. As a makeup and hair artist, my goal is to satisfy, help enhance, and achieve the best look from simplicity to dramatic – whichever style my client prefers. As a photographer… my goal is to capture a moment that is moving.
